No Regrets

Happy Monday!

What an amazing past few days! My classmates and I completed entrepreneur boot camp (I got to meet the Governor, who spoke at our graduation), one of my friends got a really big new job (congratulations again, Keir!), and—the crème de la crème—I traveled to Boston to attend my aunt’s 70th birthday party. Family and friends from all over came to join in the celebration. It was the best time ever!

As I sit here on the train back home to Delaware reflecting, I feel as if all is right with the world. I have plenty to do when I arrive, and Lord knows I’m tired, but I feel so free and empowered.

You see, the party was last night (yes, Sunday night), on my aunt’s actual birthday. A number of fellow partygoers had to return to work this morning, so quite a few, much to their chagrin, opted to leave early. As the evening progressed, many of those who stayed uttered the dreaded, “Ugghhhh…. I’ve gotta work tomorrow…”

Even though I, myself, have to get back in time for a final exam this evening, I’m glad I was able to thoroughly enjoy the festivities—without the worry of impending “work.”

Being able to be there, without having to take a vacation day, call in sick, or otherwise ask permission or possibly tell an untruth (okay, lie) feels so liberating. The things that should be priorities in my life actually are—or more appropriately, are coming to be, which tells me I’m on the right track.

Living life on my own terms doesn’t mean I never have to answer to anyone else, nor that I can do whatever I want, when I want, without consequence. However, it does afford me greater choice and flexibility. And when I make decisions that are consistent with my goals for my life, I find subsequent actions/responsibilities easy crosses to bear—not laborious or burdensome. For me, that’s powerful stuff!

My final thought, in this moment, while watching the scenery pass by: I’m so glad I’m taking this chance!

I love Mondays!
